Street Sign Regulations Are Changing... Make Sure You Are Compliant.

According to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) street sign regulations are set to take effect soon. FORSITE can provide you with (MUTCD) compliant signs for your community or municipality.

Letter Height:
• Lettering must be upper and lower case,
ex: “Main St”

• Lettering on street sign names should have at least 6” tall upper case and 4-1/2” tall lower case letters (minimum letter size height increases as speed limit rises, check with local ordinance for limitations)

• Abbreviated lettering to indicate the type of street or section of city may be small lettering, at least 3” tall

Reflectivity:
• Signs should have a reflective background sheeting (Engineer Grade Prismatic or High Intensity Prismatic Sheeting)

• White borders make street name signs easier to locate and increase visibility as well

• Lettering and borders should be reflective as well

Contrast:
• White letters on a green background provide good contrast day or night, but other combinations are available (check with local ordinance for limitations)
